Consequently, it’s a great educational experience for kids. It’s a very popular destination, therefore, book in advance as the island has a max capacity of people allowed per time of day.

On Berlenga Grande Island, the Fort of São João Baptista is a fascinating visit. This historic fort offers stunning views and a glimpse into the past. It’s a bit of a walk, so bring comfortable shoes and water.

During the summer months you’ll find cabana rentals, fun animal shaped paddle boats with small slides for rent, as well as an inflatable floating park in the middle of the water. I’d recommend that only for much bigger kids/teens unless you’ll be joining in on the fun.
Play at the Beachfront Playground
During the years we lived in São Martinho do Porto, there wasn’t a playground. Recently, however, the city added a new boat themed playground right on the sand, which is sure to be a hit with the kids. They can burn off some energy while you relax with a coffee—it’s a win-win for everyone.
Take a Scenic Train Ride
The mini train ride around São Martinho do Porto is a fun activity. Kids love the experience, and it gives you a chance to see the sights. The train is a great way to get around without tiring little legs. Keep in mind the train is only available during the summer months.
