Sharing with you an Easy Luke Skywalker Kid’s Costume DIY.
I know you’re here because you want to know how to quickly put together a Luke Skywalker Kid’s Costume and believe me this is by far the easiest costume I’ve ever created.
Buying it off Amazon would probably be more convenient but with since we’ve moved out of the States and have now settled in Portugal – things become a little more difficult to come by in short notice.
A little back story, Halloween isn’t celebrated in Portugal (there might be some people that do but it’s not traditionally a holiday they celebrate).
Although I did find some costumes for sale they are mostly scary-looking ones – Kids dress up during Carnaval which I believe is in February.
I have to get used to seasonal shopping. It’s customary in the U.S. to have things readily available at any given moment – need a Christmas Tree in the middle of March – not a problem. You’ll find one.

My costume buying efforts failed after visiting several stores.
I did the next best thing which was to walk around and see what I could possibly put together in a day’s time for a Luke Skywalker Costume.
This is what I came up with. It was super simple and easy to create. You might have some luck with things you already own. But since moving to a different country we purged a lot of what we own.
Here’s what you’ll need to create a Luke Skywalker Kid’s costume on the fly!
I’m not a seamstress and this required absolutely no sewing but if you do have experience I’m sure you could make it even better.
Luke Skywalker Kid’s Costume DIY Must Haves:
- Woman’s Long sleeve shirt/sweatshirt
- Khaki pant/tights ( I wanted a lighter color but this was all I could find)
- Kid’s belt – I found the braided kind to be better for the feel of the costume. This one also works well and has a buckle like Luke’s.
- Men’s Dress/winter socks in a beige or similar color
- Credit Cardholder
- Kid’s Shoes – we used his Uggs
- Masking Tape
- Lightsaber
Some notes about the Costume
TOP: I was originally going to cut up the Woman’s shirt in order to make a Kimono type shirt but since I only bought one and needed it for the following morning I decided against it.
Had I had more time or purchased a second piece I would have tried it that way instead. Up to you. I think it worked this way.
BELT POUCH: Also – for the belt pouch, you could make it out of felt and pin a metal button but I ran across a cardholder that under 2 bucks and decided to use that instead.
I did buy a holster to hold his lightsaber but since he wasn’t allowed to take it to school I left it out of the costume.
LIGHTSABER: This will be the easiest costume to put together usually with items you already own – aside from the lightsaber.
Albeit if your kid is looking to dress up as a Star Wars character I bet you already own at least one. There are several options on Amazon from basic ones to full out realistic lightsabers. The choice is yours.
SOCKS: If you own boots you won’t need the socks, since we only had low rise boots I used the socks to cover them. All you’ll need to do is cut off the toes in order to fit the socks in. I used tape to keep the socks from riding up.
I believe that’s all you need to know about putting together this quick Luke Skywalker Kid’s Costume yourself.
