Changes don’t need to be drastic in order to be effective. Making small changes can improve your quality of life and make life much more enjoyable.
My parents are in their sixties and have lived a sedentary life for as long as I’ve known them.
I’m happy to report they’ve started making small changes to their lifestyle that have greatly improved their quality of life.
One small change with a HUGE impact has been walking daily. They walk for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon.
My father especially has dropped over 20 pounds! You should have seen his doctors reaction!
Like my parents, one small change and they’re on their way to a healthier and happier season in their lives.

Improve your Quality of Life with These Small Changes
Walk daily
My parents’ story I mentioned above is proof that daily walks will greatly improve your quality of life. One thing I left out is, my father’s doctor urged him to lose some weight for his health and to make better food choices.
He did listen and started seeing his health improve in a few weeks, my mother saw the results and only then joined in. But his change affected her and now she’s benefitting as well.
Someone might be watching you and also apply these changes to their own lifestyle! Everybody wins!
Always use the stairs
This is a great way to get some exercise in anywhere, you don’t have to spend an hour at the gym (unless you want to) but adding little things here and there will have an impact on your life.
Park your car farther away
Another way of increasing your daily steps is to always park your car farther away. I’ve seen people wait for spots closer to the door but if you’re not hurt or impaired in some way, always choose parking spots away from the entrance and get your steps in!
Drink more water
We all know this, we hear it constantly. You’d be surprised at how little we drink water. If you have trouble drinking more water, you must plan ahead. Purchase those big jugs of water and fill it daily.
Make your bed every morning
Even when my bedroom might be a little chaotic, making the bed makes it seem less so and gives me a boost to tackle everything else around me.
If this is something you also struggle with, I highly recommend making this small change.
Take your vitamins
A small change I’ve also applied to my life as of late. I never forget to give my son all of his vitamins. On the other hand, I had been neglecting my own. I take all of my vitamins at breakfast and one last one before bed.
Eat Healthy Foods
Eat your vegetables people! I can’t stress this enough. It’s important for your body to function as it should. Diversify to not get bored. My suggestion is to always roast your vegetables if you have a hard time consuming them.
My favorite vegetables are asparagus, broccoli, and Brussel sprouts. You can also give my Blueberry Protein Energy balls or my Air fryer Kibbeh a try. Both are delicious and healthy options!
Write Down 3 Things you’re Thankful For
Complaining will suck the life out of you and of those around you. When you catch yourself getting to that place, grab a piece of paper and pen and jot down 3 things you’re thankful for. You’ll see your attitude change.
Make a Playlist with your Favorite Songs
I have my own playlist on the Amazon Music app, it’s my go-to when I need a pick me up! Not technically inclined, you can find thousands of playlists readily available to your taste.
Declutter
When I’m surrounded by clutter my mind shuts down, I start feeling overwhelmed, and its a spiral down. Clean up that clutter.
If it’s too much, start with one small thing you can put away. Little by little you will get there.
Pick up a Hobby
I’m the hobby queen, I’ve tried so many things. Next on my list is Archery, it looks like some much fun. You don’t have to commit to a hobby, you can try a class.
I just recently took two cooking classes that were so much fun! I’m also having a great time making Cricut Crafts!
Read a Book
Having a full bookshelf of books is something I love, but it might not be your thing. You also don’t need to spend any money. Get yourself a library card and read away.
Watch your favorite Movie
We all have favorite movies, and depending on my mood there are certain ones I watch over and over again to boost my mood. I have a list of movies I enjoy watching that might be beneficial!
Call a Friend or Family Member
One way to forget your own troubles is to call someone. Of course, make sure this isn’t a person that enjoys complaining. Call someone that will boost your mood.
Volunteer
Giving your time to a good cause will certainly improve your life. There are several organizations you can volunteer at. Need something less formal? Help out a neighbor or friend.
Meditate
My mind is constantly on, meditation is hard for me. I’ve downloaded the calm app for guided meditation and it has helped me focus.
Stretch
As we get older things don’t work as well as they used to, making sure to stretch daily will help you stay limber and with less pain as we age.
Get Some Exercise In
I do not like cardio, I use dancing or walking as my cardio. Weightlifting is more of my thing but also don’t like going to the gym. I keep small weights and a weighted bar at home for some muscle work.
Bodyweight exercises are also a wonderful way to build muscle. Here are some YouTube accounts to get you started on a workout routine without leaving the house.
As I mentioned above, applying every single one of these changes will become overwhelming and you most likely won’t follow through. I suggest picking a few to tackle and apply them.
Once those changes become second nature, move on to other choices and you’ll have greatly improved your life.
Thanks for stopping in! Here’s a to a happy & healthy life!
xo, Ellen
