Sharing how you can make this easy and delicious Pan-Roasted Parmesan Asparagus.
I recently shared the recipe with my audience over on Instagram and I got a lot of questions on how to prepare asparagus.
Sides are a very important part of a meal, and instead of starchy sides I opt for a healthier yet equally delicious vegetable.
How to Choose the perfect asparagus
If you’ve never shopped for asparagus, make sure you follow these tips, if you’re a pro, head on down to the recipe.
- Make sure the asparagus spears are firm.
- Touch the leaves up on top to see if there aren’t any soggy/soft ones, we don’t want those
- As far as sizing, I like my spears to be not too thin and not to thick, this is will according to personal preference.
How to Trim Asparagus Spears
You can go the traditional route and just cut them about an inch and half from the bottom up, however, my favorite way is to hold them by the ends and snap them.
This would also be a great opportunity to get younger kids to join in without handing them knives!
Prepping and Cooking Asparagus
Now on to the good part!
Ingredients:
- Asparagus Spears
- Olive Oil
- Salt & Pepper
- Parmesan Cheese
Cooking Tools:
- Ceramic or Cast Iron Skillet (This is what I recommend for safety purposes)
- Locking Tongs (This is one of my favorite kitchen tools)
- Serving Platter
Instructions:
- Pre-heat Skillet (Medium-High).
- Coat Asparagus with Olive Oil and season with salt and pepper.
- Once the skillet is hot, add in asparagus spears and cover.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes
- Gently shake the skillet or with tongs carefully turn over each asparagus spear, cooking for another 3-4 minutes. (Cooking times will vary depending on skillet and stove type)
- Add in Parmesan cheese – I like to have toasted parmesan cheese flakes plus I add some fresh parmesan once done cooking for double the flavor.
- Check for preferred doneness. I like my asparagus to have a bite.
Serve Hot! Asparagus cooks very fast, prepare it last.
