Best Games for Preschoolers
Now that my son has gotten a little older and is able to play some games, I’ve purchased quite a few games for us to play at home. Since he isn’t in school yet, we need a lot of at home activities or else the TV/iPad will reign supreme.

Aside from Arts & Crafts, sometimes you just want to get a box out and play without setting up or cleaning any messes up. None of that glitter over here.
Playing board games as a family is a great way to establish a lasting bond with your children and also help them with their learning depending on the type of games you play.
At first my son lacked the patience to wait his turn but he has shown great improvement and understands taking turns and sometimes he just wants to do his own thing which is okay by me. I just go with the flow. As long as we’re having fun he came up some of the rules too.
Our Favorite Games for Preschoolers
Hungry Hungry Hippos
It’s not necessarily a board game but it’s one that my son loves to play, even if it’s just the two of us, we’ll both take two hippos and play together with no problem. There’s also a grab and go version – which comes with a cover for the balls, great for long car rides.
Candyland
Candyland is a favorite of lots of families and it’s no different with us, but I have to say that my son likes to choose the cards he gets, he loves blue and doesn’t like it when he doesn’t get blue or a color he wants at the moment. He’s still learning to play this one but we still have fun.
Pop the Pig
Pop the Pig has also been a hit at our house. With this game he’s learning to his numbers and to color sort. I ask him which number is on the game piece and we’ve been doing great a number recognition. Plus it’s fun!
We love playing this game, it’s super easy to just open the box and start playing. It’s a great game for building coordination.
This game has a “Game of Life” kind of feel as it has a wheel to spin, which my son finds super fun to play. It’s simple enough for younger children to catch on and learn about consequences. It’s also great to help with counting.
We play with our Picasso Tiles very often, this one is probably the one I find the most fun because of it’s open ended play. You can play all day with it if you’d like. My son loves to build garages for his cars and tear it down and build it back up. We have the 60 piece set, but I think I’ll be buying more. We also have the this car/truck set to go along with it.
We love Daniel Tiger around here and this game is perfect for their age group. This game Encourages interactive game play, builds social skills plus reinforces simple counting and coordination.
Players take turns picking pretend cherries, blueberries, apples, and oranges from their trees to fill their basket. The first to fill their basket wins.
