And another holiday is here. Happy Easter Weekend! I know it’s cliche to say how fast the time has gone, but seriously… what is happening with the time?
I don’t have cute Easter Basket ideas for you but recently I created a poll on my Instagram stories, if you don’t follow me yet on Instagram head on over there, I offer lots of insight there too into the life of a mother.
In this poll, I asked how many of you were going to be giving Easter baskets to your children and the poll shows more than half of you will.
Well, here’s why I’m not making Easter Baskets this year.
Honestly, I’m just fed up with the number of things “we” give our kids. There’s always a new toy, and now every single holiday has become a reason to give a basket of something to children.
My son asks a lot of my family members what they have brought for him? And everyone thinks it’s funny/cute but I see it as we’ve programmed him to receive so many things it’s expected. The giving needs to be scaled back 100% and I can’t indulge into giving him more things.
I will say, we will be having our own Easter egg hunt in your backyard with a few friends and he’ll get some fun and chocolate out of it. But what’s most important really are the memories we’ll create because frankly, I’m so tired of giving him things.
This might not be something your family is willing to give up, especially if you have older children that have grown accustomed to receiving their Easter baskets. But I just want this to happen all around.
Today I began “spring cleaning” my son’s toys and separating toys to give away and I feel lighter already and I’m sure the kids that receive the toys will benefit greatly.
What you could do instead of Easter gift baskets
Every holiday doesn’t need to be a reason to expect gifts, I know there are parents that use this time to gift kids things they need, but maybe we can just add the following items to their closet or bookshelf without making a “thing”.
Here are some suggestions of items you can “gift” without actually gifting it.
- New Bathing Suits
- New Pajamas
- Easter Themed Books
- Shoes/Sandals
- Coloring Books
Hope you found this post enjoyable and got some new ideas from it.
Here’s to more holidays without gifts.
