10 Things that Make me Happy
There are few fellow bloggers going around writing blog posts about Things that make them Happy and I decided to follow along and jump on the HAPPY train and try this “happiness exercise” We can all use a little more happiness in our lives.
I wanted to participate in writing this list because sometimes when problems come into our lives it’s difficult to see the good, this is a great way to exercise those brain cells and push away all the bad and appreciate the goodness in our lives we sometimes take for granted.
Of course there are the given answers – God, Family & Friends but I don’t want to talk about those. I want to dig deeper into simple every day things that make someone happy and how different those things might be for different folks.
I would truly love it if you joined in on this “Happiness Exercise“ and possibly find new joy or new appreciation for the common and uncommon in our lives.
10 Things that Make me Happy
1. Alone time
I’m more of an introvert than anything. Too many people, too many things going on all at once gets my heart beating a little too fast for comfort so I enjoy my alone time.
2. Movie Theaters
Jumping off the alone time, I love going to movie theaters… especially alone and when the room is mostly empty, preferably empty. It just makes me so happy to sit in that room by myself.
3. Music, especially Classical
Growing up my father was in a band and I’ve been influenced my music all of my life. I’ve taken a quite few music lessons and quit several times. I’m no Mozart but I can carry a tune on a piano and have some guitar knowledge.
However I can sing and at some point in my life thought of making a profession out of it but life had other plans. But going back to classical music, Classical music makes me calm, peaceful and happy.

4. Museums, Old Buildings, Ruins…Really Anything Historical
I love love love visiting older cities. Their architecture is enchanting and I’m fascinated by the history behind it and the wonder of the lives that were lived there.
5. Carbs
I almost never diet, the thought of skipping carbs in meals are horrifying. If you ever see me ordering just a salad you’ll be sure it has extra croutons – I do love those croutons.
But one food that I will definitely make for myself if I’m in need of a pick me up is those good ol’ instant noodles.. yea you know, those possibly made of questionable food sources. I add my own seasoning especially curry and will add some leftover chicken or beef. HEAVEN in a bowl.
6. Water Water Everywhere
Things that involve water are definitely my happy place – Take me to a beach, pool or a bathtub and I’ll be happy as a clam. It’s safe to say that my son also is a water lover and we’re currently obsessed with going to water parks. My dream has become a reality.
7. Massages
I’m probably not the only one but my husband is one of those people that don’t enjoy massages. I would get one every day if I could. If one day I’m blessed with many riches you’ll be sure I’ll have a personal masseuse. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I walk into a spa knowing what’s to come.
8. Trying/Finding New Things
I don’t like eating at the same restaurants, I know a lot of people tend to always eat out at their favorite places but I love trying new restaurants and cuisines. I’m always thinking I’ll find my next new favorite that way. I love going to French Cafes – Oui Oui.
9. Half Sunny/ Half Rainy Days
You get a little of both, what’s not to love? Waking up to a beautiful sunny day, you get outside.. play, go to the pool and in the afternoon here comes the rain! That’s Florida weather for ya and I love it. Curl up on the couch with a snack and a movie when it’s raining and I’m done.
10. Cooking
Making something delicious in the kitchen is so gratifying to me and I’m always trying to One-up my last meal. I enjoy seeing the happy faces when people are enjoying the food I’ve made but I do not like cleaning up afterwards… so head to the sink.
Well know that you’ve gotten to know a little big more about what makes me happy, how about you go write down a list of your own?
You’ll be glad you did it! I felt a little more gratitude and more joy from just jotting them down. It really makes you think about the goodness in our lives.
Thanks again for stopping by!

Thanks for sharing! I’m with you on the massages and alone time. One of the other little things that brings me joy is hanging out with my dog – I love scratching her behind her ears, and she enjoys it, so it brings happiness to everyone!

Many of these make me happy too! With two small children I wish I had more alone time or just more time to spend with my hubby! In life you go through phases of happiness and unhappiness so these are great reminders. Doing what you love makes you happy!

As weird as it sounds, I am also happy when I get alone time. I enjoy the quiet that comes with it. Water everywhere also is one I can relate to. Love the beach and just being outdoors. Have a great week.

It really is the little things in life that make us happy, nothing materialistic, just simplicity. A lot of the times we take these things for granted, thanks for the reminder.

Alone time is something that makes me incredibly happy, too. For some reason other people don’t always get that…but it’s such a reenergizer!

Thank for this beautiful and very important reminder. There are times that we get carried away by stress that we forget to pause and appreciate things around us. Currently, I love baking because it makes my kids excited and it makes me happy. Also, I make sure to wake up early everyday for some 30 mins. alone time with my coffee (keeps me sane)!
